If the battery is good and the car is not charging, then the alternator or wiring is bad. With the car running, ask the mechnaic "what is the voltage across the battery?". - If is over 12V (should be something like 14 volts) then the alternator is charging. - If the voltage is low, the alternator is probably bad.
You can replace the battery and not reset the computer, but the car will not properly charge the new battery. I'm sure the dudes at walmart in McAlester, OK know better than the BMW TIS and Bently publishing that as been developing BMW repair manuals since the 1980's based on actual repair of BMWs.
Vanos out of adaptation limits. Hey all need some help diagnosing this. E90, 170,000 kms been getting an emmisions light every 50kms. Read about the vanos solenoid orings so changed them, and reset all adaptations through inpa, but vanos is still in the red. With revs the numbers don't change with revs.
